The Good, The Bad, & Your Budget . . .

By Chuck Freels

Time for a Better Way!

For the last several years your department and agencies have learned to trim the fat or go without. Hopefully your department/agency squeaked by the 2012 budget year, sadly enough I am sorry to say not all did!

We were spoiled for a while with grants and funding that was available after 9/11 and yes hopefully your department and agencies got to use the funding and stepped up to meet the NFPA standards, which help govern all agencies. The NFPA standards keep changing which is a good thing for life and safety of all.

The only problem with keeping up with the Standards  is that it has turned into a  budgetary nightmare, where do you allot your funding and where do you cut it or what hasn’t been cut? Do we cut equipment purchases, maintenance, manpower or  training?

FY2013 is going to be a hard year for all departments and agencies because we are not sure of anything.  1st we had the Sequester at the end of March which according to the International Association of Fire Chiefs we will see Federal Grants cuts of 5% or $117 million. According to IAFC also expect $2 million cut to USFA’s budget, $163 million cut to wildland fire agencies,  $125 million to  U.S. Forest Service and $38 million from Dept of Interior. Not to mention the effects these cuts will have at city, county and state levels. So the main question is where do we stand besides United?

Now that the proposed Federal budget for 2014 is out, which would restore a lot of the sequester cuts back to pre 2013 and add an additional $14 + million to the FY2014, only one issue is that both houses have to vote on it and the President has to sign off on it. So again where will your budgets be?

This is one of the many reasons why we came up with C.A.S.P.E.R. by 911 C.A.S.P.E.R. Systems to help generate a steady donation revenue stream. Yes there is still a lot of funding out there but there seems to be more people competing for it. The 911 C.A.S.P.E.R. Systems can also help you qualify for SAFER and AFG grants.  I have more information on grants and how much C.A.S.P.E.R. can bring in for you, including your expected ROI. I’d be happy to share it with you.
